Using Microsoft Vista for Testing - New Look and Feel but does it really Impress!
Microsoft Vista: The new one on the planet. So how does this impact us as Software Testers. Read on to know why:
General Observations:
1. 30 GB for default Installation
2. Great & better Usability than before
Good Points/Testers Tips:
1. Little more matured technical details provided, the earlier Operating Systems said nothing but the obvious.
Bad Points/ Testers Precautions:
The Speed Sucks
Conclusion & Analysis: This one really comes from my heart. And it reminds me of an old quote of a technical guru "Windows is extremely complicated and huge, putting API on top of it which merely hides it, and its destined to come and bite you right on your leg".
Yes, it really is all the more bulkier and no matter you have dual core processor with 2 GB RAM, the speed would still be the same as your old machine. My request to Microsoft would be to give us just 1 stable OS guys, not the fancy usability stuff. I have been evaluating and using Microsoft Windows for Software Testing which had started with Microsoft 3.11 & now its Vista. And I am yet to come across any flavor of all the Operating Systems that have been released by microsoft which does not have crash. All of them have with 100% reproduce-ability.
1 Give us 1 stable Operating System, whether it has a GUI or not.
2 Change the strategies and old rules where Windows is directly proportional to the speedy Intel Processors. Both complementing each other.
Microsoft was always towards usability and stabilization. Amazing results for the former, and worst for the later. And the former results also come over a very hectic price of highly demanding processors speed.
Intel all time focus was just to speed. Very much successful, and 2nd to none. Hands off to you guys. But what about mobility? The entire landscape is changing, and there seems to be no buzz or everyone is
The world is moving towards mobility, and Microsoft is far from even being close to any of its competitors. Here its just the gray matter works, and not corporate smartness where in you either buy out otherwise the guys perish.
Embedded/Mobile Side also I have seen a lot of fun, which I intend to share in the next article.
